“The Great War in Broad Outlines” Exhibition Launched
To mark the centenary of the First World War’s outbreak in 1914, The Changi Museum and the Belgian Embassy together launched The Great War in Broad Outlines travelling exhibition on 25 Sep 2014 at the Museum. The Museum is the first stop on an international circuit that includes Hungary, Canada, the United States, Japan and Australia.
The official ceremony to mark the launch featured speeches by the Director of The Changi Museum, Mr Jeya Ayadurai and the Belgian Ambassador to Singapore and Brunei, HE Mr Gerard Cockx. There was also a reading of the famous war poem In Flanders Fields and a beautiful rendition of The Andante from Franz Schubert’s Rosamunde Quartet. After the ceremony, the guests were invited to view the exhibition. They were also treated to a buffet reception.
The Ceremony was attended by the Ambassadors of Belgium, Canada, the EU, Finland and Netherlands; representatives from the National Heritage Board, the English Language Institute of Singapore and National University of Singapore; and members of the Museum Roundtable.
Comprising 30 information panels created by the Belgian National Institute for Veterans and Victims of War, the exhibition covers the war in Europe, the battles in Belgium, the battles in German colonies, people’s lives during the war and the changes brought about by the war.
The exhibition will be hosted at the museum until 15 Nov 2014.
